Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has signed the ₦1.016 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, pledging a sustained drive for accelerated infrastructural and socio-economic development across the state.
The Governor signed the document on Monday at his residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, shortly after the bill was passed by the State House of Assembly. The 2026 fiscal plan, which maintains its original size as presented to the legislature, is designed to consolidate the administration’s ongoing reform in the state.
Speaking after the signing, Governor Otti stated that the budget reflects his administration’s vision of empowering citizens through a conducive economic environment. He noted that the fiscal plan prioritizes heavy investments in critical sectors, including: Healthcare and Education: Enhancing social service delivery. Infrastructure: Expanding the state’s road network.Environmental Sustainability: Addressing ecological challenges.
“This budget maintains the capital and recurrent expenditure ratios that reflect our development priorities,” the Governor said. “We are committed to implementing this document faithfully, while maintaining the highest standards of transparency and accountability.”
Governor Otti commended the State House of Assembly for its diligent scrutiny of the bill, describing the process as a masterclass in democratic collaboration. He noted that the time taken by the lawmakers to review the document was a sign of their commitment to the interests of the people of Abia.
He further reaffirmed his stance on fiscal discipline, assuring the public that any necessary mid-year adjustments would be returned to the House for proper legislative action.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, described the 2026 budget as a “Project of Acceleration and New Possibilities.”
The Speaker remarked that Abia has successfully moved past years of infrastructural decay and is now on a steady path toward total transformation. He noted that the state’s progress is increasingly drawing national and international attention.
“The House will continue to support the Governor’s development agenda,” Emeruwa stated. “We will not allow any setbacks in the drive to transform our state.”
The 2026 budget is expected to take effect on January 1st, serving as the primary blueprint for the state’s economic activities for the upcoming fiscal year.
